Clean Return from the Field

Westermann and Wienhoff develop a segmented brush system for more safety

With a practical new idea, Westermann Radialbesen and Wienhoff Gülletechnik are setting new standards in agricultural road cleaning. The two Emsland-based companies joined forces to tackle a common problem: dirty roads and paths. When fields are wet, mud on the road can quickly become a traffic hazard — and for farmers, it means extra work. Westermann has developed a segmented brush system that keeps roads clean right after leaving the field – without the need for an additional machine.

Cleaning on the way back

The new system is mounted directly on the slurry tanker and cleans asphalt or concrete surfaces while driving back from the field. This means there’s no need for a second cleaning run with another vehicle. Any dirt carried onto the road by the tires or tanker is removed immediately – before it can dry or cause a slipping hazard.

Smart design for uneven ground

Unlike conventional sweepers, which usually work axially from one side, the new segmented brush uses a flexible, multi-part design. This allows it to adapt perfectly to uneven or sloped surfaces. “Even on rutted farm tracks, we can remove slurry residues, clay, and mud completely,” explains Alfons Westermann.

Saving time, money, and improving safety

Combining the slurry tanker and cleaning unit offers multiple benefits: it saves time, as farmers don’t have to go out again to clean the roads. “Farmers often work under time pressure, so the segmented brush is a real relief,” says Andreas Dieker from Wienhoff. It reduces labor, fuel, and maintenance costs – and shows farmers’ commitment to protecting the environment and road users.

Innovation from the region

For the first time, road cleaning is integrated directly into the slurry spreading process. According to the companies, this concept is an important step towards greater safety, environmental responsibility, and efficiency in modern slurry technology. Westermann contributes decades of experience in developing durable brush systems, while Wienhoff provides hands-on expertise in slurry application. The result is a practical, field-tested system that improves everyday work on the farm and makes roads safer for everyone.
